This pride month, we have something new. The question has raised if SpongeBob SquarePants is Gay? Nickelodeon’s tweet highlighting the pride month that SpongeBob may be a LGBTQ+ character.
Here is what you need to know about SpongBob SquarePants. He is 21-years-old and lives in a pineapple under water. He looks like a sponge that is absorbent and yellow in colour. The name comes as he is square in shape and the trousers her wears are also square in shape.
SpongeBob in the tweet is portrayed along Korra, from the series The Legend of Korra who is a bisexual, Actor Michael D Cohen who plays the role Schwoz Schwartz in Henry Danger. Michael announced that he is a transgender only last year. The tweet read: “Celebrating #Pride with the LGBTQ+ community and their allies this month and every month.”

Though the replies to the tweet were turned off, internet took a storm in debating about SpongeBob’s sexuality. Some responded stating that he is gay and others suggested that he would be bisexual. A few comments said that the Show creator, late Steve Hillenburg, revealed that Sponge Bob is asexual.
In 2005, when doubts raised asking if SpongeBob and Patrick are homosexuals, Hillenburg replied to the comment stating, “We never intended them to be gay. I consider them to be almost asexual. We’re just trying to be funny and this has got nothing to do with the show.”
People on Twitter have reacted positively to the news stating that SpongeBob would be an ace icon for LGBTQ+ inclusiveness in cartoons.
