India got its first transgender lawyer

Formally known as Udhaykumar, now Sathyasri Sharmila, is India’s first transgender lawyer. Sathyasri Sharmila hails from Ramanathapuram district in Tamil Nadu. When she was 18-years-old, she left her home town as she was mistreated. She completed her graduation in B. Com (Corporate Secretaryship). Sharmila wanted to help her community and she desired to be a lawyer.

Sharmila said that though there are pride walks throughout India, the LGBTQ community is still not given all the opportunity to prove themselves in the society. She also said that the community does not even get the basic amenities.

In order to play by example that a few transgenders do face the toil and outrun themselves in a good position. Sharmila has registered herself with the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Bar Council as India’s first transgender lawyer.
