Is Mass Media referring to LGBTQ+ in the right way possible?

Movies as a medium attracts a huge crowd without any mediocrity. In recent times, the way of getting the audience attention moved from movies to short series that are out on online platforms like Hotstar, Netflix or Amazon Prime.

Assuming that the present generation are well understanding and aware of the Gender and Sexual differences, the targets of the mass media falls up on portraying the different characters.

Following are the list of Movies and Series that had portrayed the LGBTQ⁺ community in the recent times.

1. Made in Heaven – Made In Heaven is a 2019 Indian drama web television series that premiered on Amazon Video. The series chronicles the lives of Tara and Karan, two wedding planners in Delhi. The male lead Karan is a Gay and the series shows how Gay relationships is perceived in India before decriminalization of Article 377.

   

2. Four more shots please – The series premiered on Amazon video and it is the story of 4 flawed women as they live, love, make mistakes and discover what really makes them tick through friendship in Mumbai. One of the lead role Umang plays the role of Bisexual. Umang leaves her hometown as she is forced to marry a man when in love with her sister-in-law.

   

3. Paternity Leave – Paternity Leave is an English movie that released in 2015. After four years in his first stable relationship, a man finds out that he is pregnant with his partner’s baby.

   

4. Queer Eye – Queer Eye is available on Netflix. Queer Eye features a team of gay professionals in the fields of fashion, personal grooming, interior design, entertaining and culture collectively known as the “Fab Five” performing a makeover by revamping the wardrobe, redecorating the house, advice on grooming and lifestyle for straight (heterosexual) people.

   

5. The L Word – The L Word is premiering on Hotstar and it is the story about a group of lesbian friends struggling with romance and careers in Los Angeles

   

6. Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga – Ek Laski Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga starred lead role by Sonam Kapoor and Anil Kapoor. It is a story of an orthodox Punjabi girl coming out as a Lesbian to her father in front of the entire town.
