Battery hurdles, charging speed, and performance targets are keeping Ferrari from hitting the EV accelerator at least for now.
Ferrari’s EV Roadmap Hits a Red Light
Luxury automaker Ferrari has confirmed that its first fully electric car won’t roll out before 2025. Originally expected around 202223, the project is now delayed as the Italian marque weighs critical challenges:
- Battery autonomy
- Charging speeds
- Maintaining Ferrari level performance
CEO Louis Camilleri explained that while Ferrari is actively studying an all-electric grand tourer, the technology hasn’t yet matured enough to meet the brand’s uncompromising standards.
Hybrid for Now, Alternatives for the Future
For the immediate future, Ferrari will continue focusing on hybrid production models, blending internal combustion engines with electric power. But the company isn’t putting all its bets on batteries.
Camilleri revealed that Ferrari is also exploring:
- Hydrogen fuel cells
- Biofuels and other alternative powertrains
The goal? To identify technologies that balance efficiency, sustainability, and Ferrari’s iconic performance DNA.
Ferrari’s Vision of Tomorrow
Ferrari’s cautious stance reflects a larger debate across the supercar industry: how to embrace electrification without compromising speed, sound, and soul. While mass-market EVs are flooding roads, Ferrari insists its entry must be nothing short of groundbreaking.
For now, the Prancing Horse will gallop on hybrids while quietly perfecting the electric dream.
